Health And Skin Benefits Of Avocados

Avocados, or also called alligator pears, are a fruit that belongs to the Lauraceous, a flowering plants family which also includes camphor, cinnamon and bay laurel. Rich in vitamins, fiber, folic acid, and potassium, avocados are known as the world’s healthiest fruit!  Avocados come in more than 80 varieties; the most well known being the Haas Avocado.

Avocados are known for such health benefits as lowering cholesterol, regulating blood pressure, prevention of heart diseases, and protection against eye disease.  Since they are so rich in foliate, they can even help cut the risk of birth defects for a pregnant mother’s unborn baby.  Last, but not least, since avocados are such a potent antioxidant they help to protect your body’s cells from free radical damage which leads to disease.

The avocado has 200 calories for 100 grams. Typically, fruits have approximately 60-80 calories for 100 grams. Due to the high amounts of calories, avocado is a best diet for people who want to gain weight. Avocado is a healthy source of calories, unlike many other calorie-dense foods that may contain excess saturated fats and sugar.

As if the overall health benefits weren’t enough, avocados are also great for the skin!  There are so many positive effects of Avocados for skin, that’s why so many day spa centers use spa treatments including avocados. They are known as Mother Nature’s skin moisturizer and even help to treat skin problems like eczema.

Avocado oil is very similar to our skin’s natural oil which makes it the perfect consistency, not too oily and not too light.  The avocado oil is added in many cosmetics because of its ability to nourish the skin and make your skin glow. It also aids in treating psoriasis, a skin disease that causes skin redness and irritation.
